ATTENTION: HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS
Meet the foundational elements of The Joint Commission’s
New workplace violence training requirements
Using this simple and highly-effective approach
Our customizable online on-demand course is available via a content license for uploading to your LMS. All your staff can learn the fundamentals of non-escalation (preventing conflict), de-escalation (reducing conflict), and crisis management (addressing an inability to cope) ... in less than 90 minutes

What I like most about the Vistelar training program is it is different from the ground up than most other training programs. Instead of simply telling learners to “Set Limits,” it helps them learn how to communicate limits effectively with usable scripts. Next, the program offers better defensive and physical management strategies. Oftentimes, training programs will offer “safe” training on how to defend oneself or how to regain physical control of a person acting out in crisis. This training is “safe” in that it limits the realism to hide the fact that it would not be successful if needed in a real-world environment with a real person acting out. Vistelar is different. Its training is easy to follow and gives the participants real options for both their personal safety AND that of the person in crisis. It’s just better!!

Vistelar’s Healthcare Workplace Violence Focus
Effective January 1, 2022, The Joint Commission (TJC) implemented new workplace violence requirements with three new and two revised elements of performance (EPs). One of the new EPs is incorporated into TJC Standard
HR.01.05.03: Staff participate in ongoing education and training.
EP 29: As part of its workplace violence prevention program, the hospital provides training, education, and resources (at time of hire, annually, and whenever changes occur regarding the workplace violence prevention program) to leadership, staff, and licensed practitioners. The hospital determines what aspects of training are appropriate for individuals based on their roles and responsibilities.
The training, education, and resources address prevention, recognition, response, and reporting of workplace violence as follows:
-
-
- What constitutes workplace violence
- Education on the roles and responsibilities of leadership, clinical staff, security personnel, and external law enforcement
- Training in de-escalation, nonphysical intervention skills, physical intervention techniques, and response to emergency incidents
- The reporting process for workplace violence incidents
-
Using our Unified Conflict Management System™ delivered via a unique content license program, Vistelar helps healthcare organizations meet this TJC requirement.
We provide verbal and physical conflict management solutions addressing the entire spectrum of human conflict that are the outcome of over four decades of research and real-world experience. You can learn more about the breadth of our services further down this page.
Conflict Management for Healthcare Online On-Demand Course

One core element of our Healthcare Workplace Violence Prevention and Intervention training is a customizable online on-demand course available via a content license. This course is delivered as a SCORM-compliant file for uploading to our Licensee’s learning management system (LMS).
The course — Conflict Management for Healthcare — was designed to meet the foundational training requirements of The Joint Commission by providing comprehensive training to all staff on non-escalation (preventing conflict), de-escalation (reducing conflict), and crisis management (addressing an inability to cope). The course comes in two parts, with each part requiring less than forty-five minutes to take.
Licensees have the opportunity to customize their course. Modifications can include
- Licensee branding (e.g., logo, colors)
- scenario video changes to align with Licensee practices
- incorporation of organizational-specific content (e.g., mission, value, policies & procedures)
- addition of selected training elements
- addition of a course-intro video by a Licensee leader
Note that this ability to customize is one of the primary reasons that Blackstone Consulting Inc, the principal security provider for Kaiser Permanente, selected Vistelar as their sole conflict management training provider. They believed that this enablement was important to having a robust training program. It was also a requirement of California law (2019 Cal/OSHA Workplace Violence Prevention in Healthcare Standard, which requires active involvement by employees in the selection of effective WPV prevention measures).
