'Hey, You Grabbed Me The Wrong Way!'

Have you ever taken a self-defense class and heard an instructor say something like, “No, grab my other arm?” or “Hey, you grabbed me the wrong way?” So, if you're grabbed by the wrist, the arm, the shirt, or the throat, do you really want to take the time to think about what move you need to escape? Wouldn't it be much better to have a self-defense technique that is easy to learn, recall, and apply no matter how you are grabbed?

Get Safe and Get Help

Grabs are dangerous for many reasons. For one, you won’t know while they are holding you if other people, such as family members and visitors, are on the way to assault you as well. Secondly, you also won’t know if they intend to drag you to a place you don’t want to go. Finally, you won't know if the assault will escalate to something much worse. In any case, whenever you are grabbed, your highest priorities are to escape, get safe, and get help.

One Technique to Rule Them All

As seen in our first two Tactical Thursdays, at Vistelar, we focus on ONE technique to use no matter how you are grabbed. The APEX is also the same technique used for escaping from a variety of grips and grabs. And knowing how to escape from them is crucial to your safety. Especially if you work in healthcare, where you work in close proximity to your patients.

Once again, it still doesn't matter how they grab you or choke you, or with which hand or both hands.  At Vistelar, all our trained self-protection skills build on the others to provide a simplified approach that is easy to learn, recall, and apply when you need it most.
